At Holy Trinity in the reception class we follow the principles and guidance laid out within the Development Matters document. We aim to give children the best possible start in life at a time when they develop very quickly.
The ways in which children engage with other people, their environment – playing and exploring, active learning, and creating and thinking critically – underpin learning and development across all areas and support the child to remain an active and motivated learner.
The PRIME areas are fundamental, work together and co-exist in supporting development in all other areas.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development.
Communication and Language.
The SPECIFIC areas include essential skills and knowledge for children to participate successfully in society.
Understanding the World.
Expressive Arts and Design.
Topics are child centred and focus on their current interests and identified needs. Topics in the past have included superheroes, the farm, food and minibeasts.
