Maths

The children have been learning numbers between 1 and 5 this week. We have looked at different ways to make 5 using part whole models, representing numbers using objects and then seeing numbers in a different way by looking at dot cards.

For this weeks group activity, the children had to sort objects into groups and tell me how many objects where in each group. The children did very well with their counting. I was very impressed!

This week the children had to sort and count objects independently. They then had to build towers using the amount of cubes that were called out. The children have really worked hard this week, putting their knowledge into practice.

This week in maths the children have been looking at length. They have had to use vocabulary such as longest, shortest and tallest. In their activity, the children have had to show understanding by building towers or threading cotton reels on string and tell me which is the longest and which is the shortest.

This week the children have been looking at adding one more to a given number.

This week the children have been looking at 'More' and 'Less'. They have played games where they have had to roll the dice and put that amount of oranges on the tree. They had to roll it again and add that amount of apples to the tree. The children then decided which tree had more fruit and which tree had less fruit. In addition to this, the children had to place dominos face down on the floor. The children took it in turns to roll the die. They had to choose a domino, count the spots and decide weather the domino or the die had the most spots. The children really got to grips with 'More' and 'Less' this week!

This week in maths, the children have being looking at one less.
