Blue Abyss!

Our topic this term is called Blue Abyss and we will be becoming mini 'David Attenboroughs' and learn more about our oceans, as well as learning about the Titanic disaster.

I will be updating the topic section every two weeks with a variety of activities linked to this topic. Please see the June Half Term subpage for a practical craft activity to complete designing a room from the Titanic Ship from a shoebox!

30 Days Wild with The Wildlife Trust

This June, join thousands of people taking part in our annual nature challenge, 30 Days Wild! We want you to do one wild thing a day throughout the whole month: for your health, wellbeing and for the planet. That’s 30 simple, fun and exciting Random Acts of Wildness.

Below I have attached some of the activities from the School's download, but you can sign up yourselves for some of the Home and Family Activities!

Reading

This term, I will be reading Malamander by Thomas Taylor on Class Dojo stories, sharing a chapter each day.

Please see the front cover and the blurb to get an idea about the before we begin.

Thomas Taylor is a fantastic author to follow on Twitter, he responds very quickly to tweets from anyone, which is a great way for the children to feel connected to the story.

There is also a website with interactive resources linked to the story!

How Far I'll Go - Moana

Please follow the PDF document below to dissect the lyrics of the song from Moana!

There is a link to the video to the song below as well!

English

This week, the children will be writing a series of Diary Entries linked to their Topic work about a journey on board the Titanic.

It would be very useful for the children to have completed some of the topic tasks linked above, as these will support the content of the children’s writing.

Maths

This week, I'd like to spend another week focusing on Money.

I know some people did not manage to finish or look at the maths tasks from the last week before the half term. Therefore, please ensure you have accessed these tasks and spent the time focusing on the following aspects of money maths:

  • Adding and subtracting different amounts of money
  • Converting between £ and p
  • Finding the change from different amounts.

Use the Parent Notes to support you in this. This also gives the pages of the Power Maths books that the children can complete. There are also lessons linked from the Oak National Academy and BBC Bitesize, which are fantastic.

If you completed this in the week before half term, I have attached some money problem solving activities below for the children to have a go at!

  • tips for self-care.

The lesson is hosted by Young Minds ambassador and Radio 1 Life Hacks presenter, Katie Thistleton, who is joined by our special guest, clinical psychologist Dr Hazel Harrison.

There are some activity sheets which you can download from the link below which will support the learning from the live lesson.
