We have been looking at fractions this week and we have been problem solving using decimal and fraction equivalents. We had to prove to Miss Read which decimal was bigger and use pictures to help us to explain. We used number lines and converted them to fractions to help us to explain!
Marvellous Measures
This week, we will be looking at measurement in maths and working on our accuracy and reading of scales skills. Today, we looked at length and we had to help Mr Willy Wonka measure out the rooms of his factory! Using our capacity knowledge, we had to solve the Oompa Loompa's problem with the labels being put on the wrong container and mix up a Fizzy Lifting Drink! Then on Friday, we investigated whether the packaging on Mr Wonka's bars made a difference to the weight...and we discovered that they were very different!
Perpendicular and Parallel Lines
Today we have been learning about Perpendicular and Parallel Lines! We learnt that parallel lines never meet and always have the same distance between them. We also learnt that perpendicular lines are lines that meet at a vertex, and this must be a right angle. Watch the video to see us raving to the double P lines!

Silly Shape!
This week, we are looking at properties of 2D and 3D shape! Today, we sorted shapes based on their properties and reminded ourselves of the different vocabulary we use for describing shapes.
Dangerous Division
Below is a video explaining one of the methods we use in Sycamore Class to help us to solve complicated division calculations.

Dangerous Division
This week, we have been looking at using a formal written method for division. Today, we learnt some new vocabulary...a factor! We used arrays to help us to identify a numbers factor pairs.
Multiplication Madness
We have been looking at multiplication this week and learning a formal written method for these calculations.Today we got some problems from Matilda and her family...she's amazing at multiplication!

Daring Decimals!
We have begun our new topic of decimals this week! Today we were experimenting with the place value of decimals! We played games and learnt about life beyond the decimal point!
Crazy Coordinates!
This week, we will be learning about coordinates and direction! Today, one group went outside and used the paving slabs as their coordinates grid. They had to remember the rhyme of 'along the corridor and up the stairs' to make sure their coordinates were written in the correct order!
Amazing Addition!
This week, we will be looking at using the column method for addition. We have been using practical equipment to help us to solve addition problems with 2/3/4 digit numbers. Scarabs and Pyramids made videos to help us to understand and explain the method of column addition.
This week, we have been practising telling the time! This also involved us looking at calendars and knowing the months of the year!Today, we have been learning the knuckle rule as well as the well known rhyme to help us learn the number of days in each month! Why don't you test us by asking us the rule we use to remember it?

Freaky Fractions!
Since the beginning of term, we have been focusing on Fractions! We have looked at fractions in lots of different ways this week, with lego, as pizzas, even with smarties!
Mental Addition Mayhem!
This week, we are trying out different methods for adding numbers quickly and accurately in our heads. Today, Manny table played twister, where they had to add two numbers from the spinner and then stand on the correct answer!
Number Madness!
We have been looking at doubling and halving this week and will be using this knowledge to solve problems using the inverse. Today, we used smarties to help us with halving and then partitioning decimals and larger numbers to halve them successfully.
Rugby World Cup Maths!
We have been learning about the rules of Rugby to coincide with the Rugby World Cup. We have been measuring and totalling lots of scores!
Silly Shapes
This week in Maths, we have been looking at 2D shapes and their properties. We are looking at different ways to describe shapes and using the correct mathematical language!
Naughty Numbers!
This is week we have been getting our brains switched back on to maths! We have been looking at place value and how we can represent numbers in different ways. We have looked at how we can show numbers on a numberline, drawing symbols and write numbers in words.
Place Value Fun!
Today, we used Angry Birds to help us with place value up to hundreds of thousands. We got our high scores and then tested our partner on what the value of the digits were! We were pretty god at reaching the top scores!
Welcome to Sycamore Street!
We used hundreds, tens and ones to build our own houses! We then totalled the value of our house and ordered ourselves into our very own street! We had one odd street and an even street.
