Flying a Broom Instructions
We have been focusing on writing instructions this week, and we have had a bit of help from Harry! Today we wrote Neville some instructions on how to ride a broom properly, without taking off! We completed some drama to show how our instructions would work!
Speech Punctuation
This week, we will be looking at how to use speech punctuation correctly. We started today by acting out a scene from Harry Potter to find the words that the character speaks. This helps us to know where the speech marks will go.
Terrifying Trolls!
We have been journalists today! This is all of our evidence on the incident that happened on Halloween in Hogwarts School! A troll broke into the dungeon! We are unsure the reasons why, but we are investigating the event and we will write our reports tomorrow!
Hogwarts Sorting Ceremony
We have had our own Hogwarts Sorting Ceremony! We had to persuade the Sorting Hat to put us into certain houses! We are now very happy with our given houses!
Hogwarts House's Qualities
We have been learning more about the houses of Hogwarts and some of their history and qualities. We have chosen some adjectives that we think describe some of the people who might be sorted into these houses and then this can help us to decide which house to be in!
Walt Disney Non-Chronological Report
Sycamore have written some fantastic fact files based on Walt Disney. We learnt lots of fascinating facts about his life and work. We had to think carefully about subheadings and grouping relevant information.
Walt Disney's Life!
Today we have been organising facts and information about Walt Disney and then try to group similar ideas together under a common subheading! It was quite tricky to make decisions about where the information should go!
Native American Non-Fiction Texts
We had a jumbled up Non-Fiction Text to sort out today. We had to design out very own page from a Native American Information book. We had all the information, but it was all in the wrong order! We had to match the information to the correct subheading and the right caption with the correct picture!
River Shape Poems
Our shape poems look amazing on our display outside our classroom! We used our ideas from the river walk to inspire our writing!
River Walk
​We had a lovely walk to the River Bain today to inspire our writing of River Shape Poems this week. We have been watching Pocahontas and we have been thinking of exciting vocabulary to describe her journey down the river.
If I were...poetry!
We have been looking at the film, Brother Bear. We watched where Kenai is turned into a bear by the spirits. We wrote our own poems thinking about what life would be like as a bear. We then used the app Chomp to decide on other objects we could become...and wrote a poem to accompany the picture. Such a great way of presenting our work!
A day in the life of a Viking...!
Superstar writing from Sycamore Class this week documenting a day in the life of a Viking! We used our ideas from our trip to Perlethorpe to help us with our historical facts!
School Reports and Letters of Persuasion
We learnt more about the other characters in the story by writing their school reports! We had to think about what their behaviour was like and how they worked in Dragon classes. Some of us had to write to Gobber the Belch and persuade him that we were the best dragon trainer!
Learning more about Fishlegs
We've been delving deeper into some of the other characters in How to Train Your Dragon...we hot seated Fishlegs to ask him more detailed questions...like why he is even called Fishlegs!
How to Train Your Dragon Character Descriptions
We used word cloud to generate exciting adjectives to describe some of the characters from How To Train Your Dragon! We thought about their appearance and their personalities.
