Week 3: Week beg: 20.04.2020

Burps, Bottoms and Bile!

This is the start of a new term, and therefore a new topic! This term, the children’s topic is called Burps, Bottoms and Bile. The main focus of this topic is Science and the children will learn more about what is inside their bodies and how the digestive system works. It will also focus on maintaining a healthy lifestyle, as well as their different types of teeth and how to keep them healthy!

This week, the activities listed below are all about TEETH!

There is no requirement to complete all of these activities, there is a huge range of practical investigations, as well as research and fact finding. Please feel free to pick and choose the ones that will suit your child and your routines. You can also come back and revisit these at any time!

Some of this learning will support the activities the children will be doing in their English tasks.

PSHE

At Holy Trinity, we use a package called 1Decision to deliver our PSHE Curriculum.

They have created resources for you to access at home to support mental health and well-being, looking at topics such as feelings and emotions, staying safe, being responsible and more.

Follow the link below to sign up and they will email you resources for FREE to access from home.

Maths

This week, the tasks are all related to telling the time!

Please read the Parent Teaching Notes FIRST and use this to support your children through this learning.

Reading

This week, I would like each child to complete a Reading Pro Test on the Scholastic website. I have added the link below and the children have their log on details at the back of their planner. Our school code is C8QG.

Once logged in, they need to click on the Scholastic Reading Pro icon, which will open a new window to the child's page. In the top right hand corner, there will be an option for the Scholastic Reading Test. This will give the children multiple choice questions to answer from a short piece of text. This will then give your child a new lexile.

From there, they can choose books to read on Epic Read linked to their lexile (log on details available on previous tabs) or in the Scholastic Library. From the log on page, there are two icons, one to say Scholastic Reading Pro, the other says Scholastic Reading Pro Library. They can search for eBooks in there linked to their lexile.

Don't forget, you can still do the quiz for any books you read at home, eBook or from your own collections!

English

This week's English task is to create a factfile based on TEETH!

The documents below will support the children's learning in this area, and please read the Parent Notes to help you to support your child.

As it states in the Parent Notes, it may be helpful for the children to have completed some of the Topic Activities first, before completing the factfile, as this will help them generate the information to write about!

Spellings

This week's spellings are listed below. The rule is where the 's' sound is spelt 'sc,' as in science and scissors

The activities linked below are for everyone, and might not involve ALL of your group's spellings. However, they are all about understanding the spelling rule. If you would like to test yourselves on Friday, you can always let me know how you get on!
