On this page I will be adding lots of information (and hopefully some video clips) to show you different methods we use to teach the four operations in mathematics and also what vocabulary is appropriate for each year group.
Place Value and Number
In our first maths unit of the term we have been ben learning about large numbers and what each digit in these numbers represents.
We have partitioned numbers into their different parts
200,000 + 30,000 + 4,000 + 600 + 90
Created numbers on a Place value chart with counters and used number lines to round numbers to the nearest group of 10, 100, 1000, 10,000, and 100,000.
We also used Part Whole Models to represent numbers in different parts.
Addition and Subtraction
In year 5 and 6 we try to use the most efficient methods to solve addition and subtraction calculations.
