Children of the Armed Forces

Children of the Armed Forces

What is a service child:

A person whose parent/s or carer serves in the regular armed forces or a reservist or has done at any point during the first 25 years of that person’s life.

Jacqui Wylie is our Service Pupil Mentor.

Mrs Wylie was an RAF spouse and accompanied her husband for 25 years, relocating regularly. There are also several members of the teaching and support staff at Holy Trinity who themselves are part of military families and this give us a special insight into the demands and effects this can have.

RAF Coningsby

RAF Coningsby is located about a 15-minute walk from the school, it is one of 2 RAF quick reaction alert stations. Home of 2 frontline, combat ready squadrons and the training station for Typhoon pilots. There are around 3,000 service personnel, civil servants and contacts that work on base.

Military Kids  Club (MKC) Heroes

On a Tuesday nights after school, we hold our Military Kids Club Heroes which all service children are invited to attend. MKC Heroes is a safe space for children to share their feelings and take part in some fun activities. This is a time for the children to talk to one another if a loved one is deployed and a time for the children to have a bit of down time. Activities for the term are decided by the children and range from movie nights, baking, arts and crafts to visits from for personnel on camp.

MKC Council

This is something new here at Tattershall Holy Trinity, we are looking forward to getting it up and running. MKC Council is a group of children who all come from Military backgrounds and will be leading Collective Worship to share about their lives.  They will gain pupil voice from  service children to determine how we can support children in school and their families.

Lincolnshire Festival of Friends

Holy Trinity, was  part of a very special project called the Lincolnshire Festival of Friends in 23-24. Mrs Liley and Mrs Wylie worked with schools across Lincolnshire to promote service children in education and further education.  In June 24 we attended a special  celebration show casing our work with service children at Bishop Grosseteste University in Lincoln.  Please clink the link below  to read our  case study in the Lincolnshire  Project Booklet.
